So…I was walking down the LONG hallway at ABC Pediatrics one day recently. You know the one, the hallway that goes from one end of the building to the other. The hallway that splinters off in both directions, leading you to your doctor. The hallway that leads you to Check-out when your appointment is over.
Anyway, I was walking down the hallway one day recently and heard a catchy tune playing in our lab. I did not know the name of the song OR the band until later, I just liked the tune because it was bouncy and happy sounding. I did some research and learned that it was called “What Makes You Beautiful” by ONE DIRECTION – also known by fans as “1D.” At this point, I encourage you to listen to the song and pay attention to the intended meaning…YOU are beautiful…to someone…no matter what you think about yourself some days!
But that isn’t the point of this article. I started thinking that this particular song would be a great background to celebrate TEACHERS as we approach the end of the school year. With that in mind, I have written the following lyrics in celebration of Teachers Appreciation Week. Feel free to write your own song or sing these lyrics to your favorite teachers! If you really want to get creative, record a video and we will post it on our website and Facebook.
Ok, so let’s get to my musical masterpiece for educators. Let me know what you think!
The following lyrics were adapted to fit into the song background for “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction:
You’re my teacher!
I know for sure,
we look at you when you
show work on the Smart Board!
I don’t know how
to do my math,
being the teacher you are
you show me how.
Reading and writing and history…
Everything that you teach….
Teacher, you light up my mind
like nobody else.
You take the time to explain
when I’m overwhelmed.
And when you hand back my test
you make me smile.
Teacher, you know (oh, oh)
Teacher, you are beautiful!
I thank you Teacher for
all that you do for me.
I help me see-ee
the person that I CAN be.
As our year comes to an end
I hope you can see…
I hope you know-o-o
Teacher, you are beautiful!
Teaching makes you beautiful!
Oh no! Come on!
I got it wrong!
You help me fix it
and show me I’m strong!
I don’t know why…
you tell me to try,
and when I do it again
I get it ri-i-ight!
Reading and writing and history…
Everything that you teach….
Teacher, you light up my mind
like nobody else.
You take the time to explain
when I’m overwhelmed.
And when you hand back my test
you make me smile.
Teacher, you know (oh, oh)
Teacher, you are beautiful!
I thank you Teacher for
all that you do for me.
I help me see-ee
the person that I CAN be.
As our year comes to an end
I hope you can see…
I hope you know-o-o
Teacher, you are beautiful!
Teaching makes you beautiful!
Whether you ever sing this song again or record your own, PLEASE don’t forget to appreciate your teachers! It is their job to teach you, but pay attention and thank them for the extra things they do: when they encourage you, when they recognize you for doing good things, when they share a smile, even when they care enough to help you when you get a problem or question wrong. Teachers are awesome, and deserve our thanks and praise : )
Thanks for reading.
